The Abbey Psalms and Canticles:
a gift to the Church
Originally published in 2010 as The Revised Grail Psalms, this recent translation of the psalms by the
Benedictine monks of Conception Abbey
has been released by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) with a few slight revisions under the title The Abbey Psalms and Canticles. It’s the official liturgical Psalter for the United States and other English-speaking countries. Psalms texts from this translation will be published in all new Catholic liturgical publications in the United States, including Liturgy of the Hours books.
A liturgical Bible based on the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE) also is planned by the USCCB. Sing a New Psalm: Communicating with God Through the Prayers of the Church—Volume I: Lauds & Vespers is based on The Abbey Psalms and Canticles.
Volume II, which covers the psalms prayed at Vigils, Day Prayer, and Compline, also is based on The Abbey Psalms and Canticles. Visit our Sing a New Psalm study directories to view sample lessons from Volume I and Volume II. A separate copy of The Abbey Psalms and Canticles, currently available from Magnificat or Ascension Press, is required for either volume of the Turning to God’s Word study.
